Maintenance of Oral Health and Prevention of Dental Plaque-related disease
Your comfort and oral health is our priority, hence prevention and maintenance of the oral health matter. We ensure personalised care for every patient.

Dental Examinations and General Clean
During a dental examination at DermDental, your dentist will:
-
Review your medical history: Discuss any health changes or concerns.
-
Visual examination: Inspect your teeth, gums and mouth for signs of decay, cracks or other issues.
-
X-rays: If necessary, x-rays will be taken to detect hidden problem such as cavities or periodontal bone loss
-
Cleaning: Perform a general cleaning to remove plaque and tartar.
-
Oral cancer screening: Checks on your soft tissues such as tongue, cheek and back of your throat to screen for oral cancer.
Necessary X-rays and Diagnostics
Dental X-rays are vital diagnostic tool to identify underlying dental issues which are not visible during the visual examination. Dental X-rays such as bitewings, periapicals and/or orthopantomogram(OPG) can reveal hidden cavities, bone loss due to gum disease and other dental abnormalities such as an impacted tooth. You may only need one or two types of dental x-ray depending on the visual examination.
Preventative Treatment i.e. Fluoride Application
Fluoride is beneficial to prevent onset of caries. We follow the Department of Health in Delivering Better Oral Health: an evidence-based toolkit for prevention. During the treatment, a concentrated fluoride solution will be applied on the teeth and will help remineralised weak (non-cavitated) enamel. This treatment is particularly beneficial to children and adults with high risk of developing caries due to their lifestyle choices.
Recall and Maintenance
The frequency of dental examinations depends on your individual needs. Typically, dentists recommend:
-
Every 6 months: For most adults
-
More frequently ie 3-4 months: For those at higher risk of developing gum disease, cavities, or other oral health issues.
-
Less frequently ie 12 months: For those with excellent oral health and low risk of developing dental problems.
Some individuals especially those who have higher risk of developing gum disease, may require to have more frequent visits especially to the hygienist.
